You do not need special techniques or long periods of time. Start with five to ten minutes. Sit comfortably. Choose a short word or phrase that expresses your desire for God (many use “Jesus,” “Abba,” or “Peace”). When thoughts come—and they will—simply return to the word without frustration. The returning is the contemplative prayer.
Over weeks this simple practice slowly rewires the soul’s ‘default setting’ from distraction toward presence. Consistency matters more than intensity.
